Guyanese are being encouraged to register and participate in a unique and live three-day event to be launched tomorrow (Monday) at 10:30 am, and which aims at linking thousands of social-minded individuals worldwide to discuss a range of topics and the challenges and seek innovate solutions for them.
`Global Pulse2010’, a brainchild of President Barack Obama administration seeks to capture ideas that have not been accessible to ordinary processes via online conversations on the Web, and Internet using popular websites like Facebook and Twitter, USAID Mission Director, Ms. Carol Horning told a media conference yesterday at the Oasis Cafe, Pegasus Hotel, Kingston, Georgetown .
The initiative , created to enable listening, learning and sharing ideas and which marks the commitment of the United states in meeting the challenges of the 21 century by working towards universal goals in partnership with a ride variety of stake holders , is being sponsored by the United States Agency of International Development in partnership with the Department of State, Education, Environment and other partners.
Horning pointed that while discussions can be had on a range of topics, 10 key challenges facing the global community in the bordering around the areas of science and technology, economic opportunity and human development have been identified. Participants therefore, can choose to participate in any of the discussion areas that interest them the most.
The designated topics are Women and Girls; Education; Partnerships; Political and Civil Rights; Inspiring a New Generation; Global Health; Entrepreneurship, Trade and Economic Opportunity; Science, Technology and I; A Sustainable Planet and Pursuing Grand Challenges .
A Global Pulse statement noted that as the name implies, the event will take the pulse of as many as 20,000 participants on key issues facing communities around the world. Global Pulse 2010 will connect participants who are champions for the same social issues to build new, or strengthen existing relationships, and inform U.S. foreign assistance and diplomatic strategies on major themes and ideas that emerge across the span of the event. It will provide an opportunity to voice opinions, share ideas, and create innovative solutions to social issues facing the global community within the fields of science and technology, entrepreneurship, and human development.
According to Horning, Monday’s launch will feature Administrator of the USAID, Dr Rajiv Shah and will see participation from the White House and Department of State and other entities.
““In addition, several distinguished panelists such as Youssou N’Dour of Senegal , a United Nations Ambassador and who is rated as Africa’s Best-selling Pop Musician; international leaders of government; private sector industry and civil organisations as well as influential individuals, who will log on to the live conversations , encourage participation, provoke deeper thinking and offer insight into the 10 designated topics.
Each topic area will have recognized leaders in the related field of interest facilitating the conversations and what is truly unique about the forum is that it gives people with innovative ideas the chance to voice their opinion, learn from one another, and speak directly with those who have the desire and resources to take action, it was noted.
Horning is of the view that Guyana may have an lot to contribute to the discussions on Sustainable Planet as it can size the opportunity to further forge its Low Carbon Development (LCD) strategy, as according to her, many people would be interested to hear of the various discussions with the Amerindian peoples and the response.

A release noted that there are a limited number of virtual seats available in Global Pulse 2010, and should the site be unable to accommodate the request of an interested individual , the site should be bookmarked as event results and information will be posted on a daily basis.

recently has been showcasing some innovate ideas in combining art with the environment, with the focus being on a clean environment and youthful British engineer, Marlon Wright, presently on vacation here with his Guyanese father.
