RANKS from the Narcotics Branch of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) intercepted a package containing four kilogrammes 103 grammes of cocaine, last Wednesday, at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA). A release said it happened about 09:15 h when the illegal drug was found in a Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) mailbag concealed in wrappers used for sweets.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Police conducted a drug eradication operation along upper Berbice River and destroyed 11 fields of cannabis sativa (marijuana) under cultivation on approximately 14.5 acres.
The Police report said about 25,000 plants, ranging in height from three feet to eight feet, five nurseries containing an estimated 30,000 seedlings, 1,000 kilogrammes of dried marijuana and three camps were also destroyed.
No one was arrested but Police are continuing investigations.
