A WOMAN was yesterday remanded to prison overnight on a charge of stealing a gold spoon after feeding a child with it.
Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson refused bail to Alicia Rose, 23, of Lot 46 New Hope, East Bank Demerara, after the defendant pleaded guilty to simple larceny.
She admitted that, on January 7, she stole the $43,000 spoon and a $3,000 silver chain, property of Bobby France.
Rose said she was at the virtual complainant’s stall when he gave her the spoon to feed his son and, after he left to go somewhere else, she took the spoon that was on the chain and went away.
She claimed, however, that someone else stole the spoon and she only has the chain at home but is willing to give it back and pay for the other item.
France said he usually wears the spoon and the chain around his neck but took them off, because his son did not have a spoon to eat with and gave the defendant for the purpose.
He said, when he returned from where he went, the defendant had disappeared with both spoon and chain.
Rose will return to Court today to make restitution.
