Power sharing – its time has come

I think political power sharing is a thing whose time has arrived.
How it is to be achieved will be quite a dilemma to establish.  But I believe that it is like yesterday or last year, to establish an idea of urgency, which the stakeholders need to commence talks with a responsible third party as a mediator and balancer.

The idea and thoughts within the mentalities of the parties interested must be absolutely positive, with love and honour of country being paramount.  As a matter of fact this should be a preamble to which they attest and affix their signatures.  The idea must not be to get some power at all costs and to merely satisfy supporters, ambition and ego.
I know the President of the Republic, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has been making some statements periodically on power sharing, while not too enthusiastic in his pronouncements; he seems to believe in it, and from the General Secretary of the governing party, we heard similar statements.  We heard statements insisting that this idea be put into place at the earliest by the opposition, showing that the Leader of the Opposition, Robert Corbin, believes in power sharing as does his party, and all other parliamentary parties.
Is it not a fact that all parliamentary parties love Guyana? This is factual, none can escape from this.  It is also true, that when parties are in the opposition, they always seem to have the answers to solve the nation’s problems, except for when they get into power, and while in the opposition, they would call for power-sharing. Then they hesitate to consider or implement power sharing.  They all have their ideas on methods of development, kinds of policies, etc., and therein lay the problem or problems.  If all were to sit as one government, each will want it to operate its way, to serve its constituents.  Some may not support a project, which the majority sees as essential, and hence, projects will be left on the desks and not implemented, to the detriment of the people.  For political reasons some projects could be railroaded and chaos could result. They have to learn to live together and trust each other.
As a patriotic Guyanese, loving all peoples and wishing to see that all peoples develop, I have a philosophical love of power- sharing, how to achieve it, especially in Guyana, will be a monumental task.  But let us all think positive and approach the idea now, with vigor, and determination.  Opposition and government must show that they can work, to eliminate suspicion and fear.  It is easy to see how desperate some are to get power, to the point of making strange accusations with strange antics.  Those who behave strangely and say ludicrous things need to practice and display maturity, not merely opposing for the sake of opposing.
