THE General Secretary of the Guyana Rice Producers Association Mr Dharam Kumar Seeraj is not to be blamed, but his corrupted field officers in some parts of the regions pocket thousands of dollars through corrupt practice and bribery and looked faces and family. One such place is Region Five, Abary section of the MMA ADA project. Some men and their wives collected vouchers for the same land, some rented their lands and both them and the tenants collected vouchers for the same land. Some collected vouchers and they never planted rice, rented or own any lands. Some men who are big rice farmers carry men who are not rice farmers to get vouchers for them.
This is misusing the government funds and taxpayers money in this country, through bad management by the Guyana Rice Producers Association. In this country the field officers should be jailed and the one who received vouchers in the Abary section of Region Five, West Cost Berbice.
The Minister of Agriculture Mr. Robert Persaud and the Mr. Seeraj, the General Secretary of the GRPA, should set up a commission of inquiry at Onverwagt at MMA ADA head office with the assistance of the MMA ADA, they will know all who own lands and all those who sublet their lands, who exist and who never existed, and they will know the ones who receive vouchers through bribery and let them bring their land receipt for paddy sent to any rice mill.
If justice is blind and should be served without fear or favour, I am calling on this government which preaches democracy to set up a commission of inquiry at Onverwagt to see how taxpayers money is misused through corruption and bribery; $400 million which our good President gave to the rice industry to help farmers.
Better this money was given to the poor old age pensioners in this country.
