Phase II of Mahaicony Branch Road to commence in April

GOVERNMENT will be constructing an additional seven miles of roadway on the Mahaicony Branch Road in Region Five as a continuation of the 6.5 miles of road that was completed in January.
This effort is part of Government’s overall thrust to provide improved road infrastructure and cater for the needs of farming communities.

A release from the Government Information Agency said the construction of the road will commence next month, and will be expedited by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications’ Force Account Unit.
Engineer of the Ministry, Sunil Ganesh stated that the completion of the road will reduce accidents, vehicle operating cost and travel time.
Construction of phase 1 of the Mahaicony Branch Road commenced in April 2009 and was completed on January 10, 2010 at cost of $175M. This road is benefiting approximately 500 residents and rice farmers.
In addition, Government has earmarked a number of roads to be constructed this year including the Black Bush Polder and East and West Canje Roads in Region Six.
