His Excellency Leopold Carrewyn, the new Belgium Ambassador to Guyana, met President Bharrat Jagdeo at State House yesterday for an official introduction, with the new Honorary Consul Keith Evelyn. The Belgium Ambassador, along with the new High Commissioner of Botswana to Guyana Charles, Thembani Ntwaagae, presented their Letters of Credence to Prime Minister Samuel Hinds in March 2009. Mr. Hinds was at the time performing the duties of President.
In an invited comment, Ambassador Carrewyn noted President Jagdeo’s interest in reinforcing Guyana’s relation with Belgium which has over the years been low profiled.
During his accreditation, the Belgium Ambassador made mention of trade possibilities in the mining sector since the trade balance is very much in favour of Guyana. (GINA)
