RUBY French, 25, of Lot 11 ‘D’ Front Road, East La Penitence, Georgetown, has been charged with receiving stolen property.
She appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday and, after she pleaded not guilty, Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said some of the booty was found under the defendant’s bed.
The Prosecutor said the items retrieved were taken from a hijacked motor car and French’s reputed husband is one of the suspects being sought in connection with the hijacking.
Particulars of the offence said, on February 20, French received, from Julius James, a tape deck valued $75,000 and a motor car light worth $15,000 among other things with a total value of $92,000, knowing them to belong to Alva Campbell.
The Prosecutor also said the defendant admitted, to Police, that she got a telephone call which caused her to collect the items.
Attorney-at-law Ms. Sasha Roberts, for the Defence, requested that French but granted reasonable bail and the Court set surety at $100,000.
The case was transferred to another Court for March 19.
