RAMCHAND Chunilall, 26, of Lot 102 Grove, East Bank Demerara, was yesterday sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for unlawfully wounding his father, Chandyal Chunilall.
The prisoner pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, admitting that he committed the crime on February 7.
The convict said he was under the influence of alcohol when he had an argument with his father and it escalated into a fight during which he lashed the virtual complainant with a piece of wood.
However, the wounded man told the Court that his son constantly assaults him and, that day, the latter broke into his house.
The victim said, when he ordered his son out, he was struck with a piece of wood that had nails on it.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, asked the Court to note that it was not the first time the defendant was charged with wounding his father.
The older Chunilall said every time the younger drinks and smokes cocaine he beats him.
