A man was Monday fined $25,000 or nine months imprisonment on a simple larceny charge.
Mohabir Singh, 40, of 10 Back Street, Huston, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on February 3, he stole one cellular phone valued $45,000, property of Gordon Watson.
The defendant admitted that he took the phone and sold it to someone else. He said he went to the virtual complainant to sell a tin of paint and he then picked up the phone there.
“I went to sell he paint and he bring plenty people to inspect the paint that I bring to sell he. I got a symptom and just pick up the phone and walk way. I sell it for $1000 and I buy a nice Chinese food and a cold Coca Cola” said Singh.
Before the magistrate imposed the penalty, the defendant said, Your worship I’m having the best symptom ever because I am now getting back my credibility”.
