On Rex Nettleford’s death
It is with great sadness that I learnt of the passing of the highly revered Jamaican Professor Rex Nettleford, vice chancellor of the University of the West Indies (UWI) and founder of the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica.
I recall his monumental contribution to life in the Caribbean and the wider world, also, his involvement in the development of our young people in the Caribbean.
Personally, I will miss him, for I can recall his candor and grace during our several conservations and his intense interest in the first Carifesta staged in Guyana in 1972.
I offer my sympathy to Prime Minister, his relatives and the people of Jamaica for this great loss.
