Two bonded for theft, receiving stolen property

ODEL Waterton, 21, of Lot 44 Block ‘Y’, Grove New Scheme and Christopher Shaw, 27, of Lot 1076 Section ‘B’, Diamond Housing Scheme, both on East Bank Demerara, were, yesterday, each bonded to keep the peace for two years.

In addition, Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson ordered Waterton to pay $20,000 Court costs and Shaw $15,000.

Waterton had pleaded not guilty to stealing a television set and an ‘Apple Smart’ phone from Shelly Thom, on January 10 and Shaw denied that he, on January 12, received the stolen things.

Shaw said he was not aware of the phone theft nor did he suspect it because he has known Waterton, for fours years, in his neighbourhood.

The virtual complainant said Waterton was employed at her Wireless Connections store, as a sales representative, when he stole from her.

But she was willing to give the men a chance, by not proceeding any further with the case and that is when the defendants were put on probation.
