PNCR-IG Councillor thanks Government for clearing drainage canal

In Region Two…
FARMERS of Aberdeen/Hackney, Lower Pomeroon, have expressed thanks to the Government for deploying excavators to clear weed and bush from the drainage canal in their communities.

People’s National Congress Reform-One Guyana (PNCR-1G) Councillor Rudolph Garraway, who spoke on their behalf, said the waterway was desilted, through the Poor Rural Community Support Services Programme (PRCSSP) five years ago, after being neglected by the previous regime for 28 years.

He said the state of the canal had caused planters to abandon their farms and coconut plantations.

However, after $65M were spent on the desilting, some who had promised to clear weeds on a regular basis failed to keep their promise and the canal became clogged again.

Mr. Garraway said the farmers approached the Regional Administration in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) for help and the machines were deployed to do what was necessary.
He said the farmers are now happy and eager to increase production.
