MINIBUS driver Mark Graham, 38, of Golden Fleece, West Coast Berbice, was remanded to prison, by Magistrate Nigel Hawke last week Tuesday, when he appeared at Blairmont Court, West Bank Berbice, on a rape charge.

Police Inspector Donna Grant-Fraser, prosecuting, said the accused, allegedly, had forced sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old female on a dam at Number Six Village, West Coast Berbice, last December 23.

According to the Prosecutor, the private school student had been sent on an errand to Rosignol, another West Berbice village and boarded the bus driven by Graham.

However, at Number Six Village, the other passengers having disembarked along the route and left the victim alone in the vehicle, the driver took the opportunity of driving to a lonely road where he committed the crime, before putting the virtual complainant in another vehicle and going his separate way.

It was a few days later that the teen reported the incident to her grandmother and alerted Fort Wellington Police, also at West Berbice, the Prosecutor said.
The case will be called, again, on February 1, for report.
