VETERAN coach Sean Baksh has recently upped his game in respect of his qualification as a swimming coach. He has ascended to Level 3 certification in the ranks of the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA).
In order to earn this certification, Baksh had to complete Levels 1 and 2. He was required to prove that he had coached age-group swimmers for a minimum of ten years and that he has served as National Coach for several national teams including Goodwill Swimming Championships (Guyana; 2005 and 2008), Commonwealth Games (Melbourne; 2006) and the Inter-Guiana Games (Suriname; 2008).
Most importantly at least one of his swimmers had to attain stipulated times.
Having satisfied all of the requirements, Sean attended the ASCA World Clinic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (September 8-13, 2009) where he obtained additional “educational units” and passed the Certification Examination..
Coach Baksh is only the second swimming coach, in Guyana, to have obtained this certification.
In addition to having completed the Level 1 and Level 2 stages of accreditation, which require education and experience, Level 3 requires an achievement criterion in addition to education and experience.
International coaches such as Baksh have to complete the educational course work and prove that they are the primary coach of an athlete who has achieved the time standard that is stipulated for the level.
The necessary proof that the aforementioned requirements have been met must accompany the application for accreditation.
