Twenty- nine-year-old Vishal Rampadarat, of 122 Uitvlugt, East Bank Essequibo, is now a patient in the High Dependency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), after being injured in the chest with a knife shortly after midday yesterday.
It was reported that Rampadarat was injured when he fell on a knife he had in his hand. His condition is listed as serious.
And in what appears to be a surge in incidents of wounding since the year began, several men have been admitted to the Male Surgical Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital, after being violently attacked over the last few days.
The latest is the 17-year-old of 45 West Ruimveldt who was on Monday stabbed in the abdomen with an ice-pick at East Ruimveldt. His condition is still being closely monitored.
Other admissions over the last few days were:
* A 32-year-old male, of Second Street, Meadow Bank, East Bank Demerara, stabbed to the left side of his chest following a misunderstanding on Sheriff Street on Saturday.
* A 61-year-old male of Bel Air, East Coast Demerara, with injuries to his head and right hand, after allegedly robbed and beaten by a group of men at Bel Air.
* A 29-year-old male of 3715 North Ruimveldt, chopped in the face by another male with whom he had a misunderstanding.
* A 33-year-old male of Henry Street, Charlestown, stabbed with a broken bottle to his left shoulder while in Sophia.
* A 25-year-old male, of Canje, Berbice, allegedly struck on his head at
the East Bank Bus Park. He too, was treated and admitted to the Male Surgical Ward.
