Two shot in Kuru Kururu robbery

Two men were shot and injured when three bandits attacked and robbed their neighbour who was beaten with a gun on Saturday night.

Police reported that at about 21:30 hours on Saturday night, Vashtie Heber, 27, of Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, was on the back stairway of her home when she was confronted by three men, two of whom were armed with firearms.

The robbers took Heber into the building where they took away $15,000 in cash, but demanded more valuables. She was subsequently assaulted with a firearm during which she managed to run out of the building and escape, Police said.

As the three bandits were leaving they discharged several rounds in the direction of two men who were in a nearby yard hitting, Pastor Gladston Bagot, 55, in his abdomen and elbow and mechanic, Phillip Toney, 30, in his left ankle.

Vashtie Heber, Gladston Bagot and Phillip Toney were all taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where Heber was treated and sent away while Bagot and Toney were referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) and admitted.
