MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica, (CMC) – Persistent rains that started early yesterday and continued throughout the day forced the abandonment of the third day in the WICB regional first-class match between Trinidad & Tobago and Combined Campuses & Colleges.

The CCC, leading by 127 on first innings, were set to resume on 105 for four in their second innings, and looking to push for a victory in the first round match at Jarrett Park.

Opener Omar Phillips is unbeaten on 51, and CCC captain Floyd Reifer is not out on eight.

So far, a pair of 23 year-olds playing for the CCC have highlighted the two days of play possible.

Phillips, who represented West Indies last year in the home series against Bangladesh, survived five dropped catches on Friday’s opening day to hit a chancy 88.

But he was more circumspect in the second innings, striking just two boundaries from 114 balls in 142 minutes.

Trinidad & Tobago-born left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh, who played for the champion West Indies Under-15s at the Under-15 World Cup in England a decade ago, bamboozled his compatriots to capture a career-best six wickets for 29 runs from 12.4 overs.

On a flat pitch that had few, if any demons, Kantasingh bowled with control. He was aided by the indiscipline of the T&T batsmen.

T&T captain Daren Ganga hit the top score of 44 for his side, but no other batsman passed 20, as the two-island republic felt the absence of Adrian Barath, the Bravo brothers, Dwayne and Darren, as well as Kieron Pollard either through injury, or extra-regional playing commitments.
