The police are investigating an armed robbery and a shooting incident in which both victims were shot on Wednesday night and early yesterday morning, in the city.
In the first incident, Police reported that at around 18:00 h on Wednesday, on Croal Street, Georgetown, Marlon Matthias, 32, of Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara, was attacked and robbed by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
Matthias was about to enter a motor vehicle when he was confronted by the men who held him up and took away four gold chains he was wearing at the time. Matthias put up some resistance and a scuffle ensued during which he was shot in his left thigh and the men escaped.
Matthias was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he was treated and sent away.
In the second incident, Police said they are investigating a shooting that occurred at about 03:10 h yesterday on Regent Street, Georgetown, during which Paul Mars, 22, of Cross and Leopold Streets, Georgetown, was shot and injured.
Police reported that Mars was walking along Regent Street when a motor vehicle drove up alongside and a man discharged a round which struck him in his left arm, and the vehicle sped away.
Paul Mars has been admitted a patient at a city hospital.
