A ROBUST and unbeaten 40 from Jamal Hinckson helped guide Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) to a five-wicket victory over New Line Cavaliers (NLC), when the two met in a specially arranged Twenty20 practice fixture at the DCC ground yesterday. Winning the toss and opting to take first strike, NLC, thanks to Gajanand Singh’s 54 (5×6, 2×4), scored 134-8 from their 20 overs, with Andrew Lyght Jr 18 (2×6, 1×4) and Chien Gittens 15 (3×4) offering support against the bowling of Kevin George and discarded national fast bowler Trevon Garraway who took 3-29 and 2-22 respectively.
In reply, DCC scored 135-5 from 19.4 overs, with Hinckson hitting two sixes and one four in his unbeaten innings. National wicketkeeper Derwin Christian, who made a breezy 31 from 27 deliveries with two sixes and one four, and Christopher Barnwell’s pugnacious 17 ball 27 (4×4, 1×6) offered support.
Guest player Orin Forde took 2-14 for NLC, while Gittens 1-13, Mahendra Nagamootoo 1-19 and Balram Samaroo 1-29 tried desperately to keep their team in the hunt for victory, but were unsuccessful.
