A man who was shot and injured during a robbery yesterday is a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) nursing two gunshot wounds.
Police reported that at about 11:30 hours, at Yarrowkabra Sand Pit, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, Fazil Basir, 40, of East Coast Demerara, was attacked and robbed by two men armed with handguns. He was shot and injured during the robbery.
Basir was sitting in his motor vehicle at the sand pit when he was confronted by the two men who pulled him out of the vehicle and shot him in his chest and shoulder.
They then took away his licensed firearm and ammunition, along with $100,000 in cash, and escaped.
Basir was taken to the GPH where he has been admitted a patient.
