Corentyne resident latest road fatality

THE police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 22:30 hrs on Sunday night at Manchester Village on the Corentyne Coast, which resulted in the death of pedestrian Albert Smith.

Smith, a 32-year-old resident of Alness Village, Corentyne reportedly attempted to cross the roadway when the accident occurred.

Police investigations revealed that he was struck down by motor vehicle, PJJ 7123.

He was pronounced dead on arrival (DOA) at the Port Mourant Hospital.

Police said the driver of the motor vehicle fled the accident scene and abandoned the vehicle on a dam at Alness Village.

The vehicle has been taken into police custody as the investigations continue.

Meanwhile, the police – in a statement yesterday – said investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the death of Junior James, 16 years old, of Baramita, North West District.

Junior James was allegedly fatally stabbed by a female teenager at a house at Baramita at about 21:00 hrs Sunday night.
Police said the suspect has not yet been arrested.
