IT was clearly a case of ‘I can’t be touched’ by a leading businessman when he brutally demonstrated this fact on Sunday December 6, just before the midnight hour, while he sat in his vehicle parked in his parking lot and viciously operated this boom box to the max.
A personal appeal by one of the residents to him to turn the music down and three different calls to the Kitty Police Station saw a response by a patrol who actually spoke to him but left the situation exactly the way it was since it was clearly a case of the patrol being fearful, unable or unwilling to perform their duty to discipline this person or whatever transaction took place between the two parties.
(One of the patrol vehicle’s number was PLL 3800 which arrived at 00:02am and the businessman entered the vehicle spent a few minutes and exited, leaving the situation unchanged. This was reported to one Constable Mingo who promised to do a follow up but nothing was done.)
The assault continued and efforts to get ranks at the Kitty Police Station to return to the scene proved futile since a busy tone was all the response that was forthcoming
After two calls to the Impact Base I was advised that a patrol was sent since the first call but it seems as though the same thing happened. The businessman couldn’t be touched. The music was turned up even harder.
The police it seems only have the heart and mind whether summoned or not to beat up and brutalise the smaller class of people.
It was 01:30 hours in the morning when the music finally stopped ‘The King’ finally decided that residents could now retire to their beds, he was done. I did so with a splitting headache and awoke with one yesterday morning.
Ever so often at any hour at nights this disgusting practice continues by unknown persons and one continues to suffer in silence on most occasions because there is an unwillingness by residents to speak out.
I am hoping that there wouldn’t be a reoccurrence of this beastly act since it is very frustrating having to depend on a pack of cowards for protection. We are taxpayers too and greatly contribute to society both in the social and health sectors and should in no way be harassed in this way. This businessman man should have respect for his neighbours.
I am asking the Home Affairs Minister to address this matter urgently.
