Enquiry over food purchase leads to wounding charge

– Court told
ACTING Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday put Akili Grimes on $30,000 bail when he appeared in Court on an unlawful wounding charge.

Grimes, 24, of Lot 74 D’Urban Street, pleaded not guilty to having, on November 28, at Lime and Bent Streets, Wortmanville, also in Georgetown, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Roy Pestano.

Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said Pestano went to buy food, saw the defendant at the counter and enquired if he had finished making his purchase.

The Prosecutor said that enquiry led to an argument during which Grimes picked up a bottle and struck Pestano on his head after the former hit him first.

Attorney-at-law Mr. Adrian Thompson, for Grimes, said the virtual complainant suffered head injuries previously and was on $5,000 station bail.
However, Grimes has to be back in Court December 14.
