Kwakwani (District 10) in the lead with 148 points

THE 49th annual National Schools Track and Field championship continued at the Albion Community Centre ground, Berbice with defending champions Upper Demerara/Kwakwani (District 10) in the lead with 148 points after competing in 35 final events.

Arch rivals North Georgetown lagged behind by 14 points followed by Bartica with 127 points at the end of day two of the championship.

Meanwhile, the 800 metres  events, scheduled to run off last  night were rescheduled for this morning, after the local organising committee postponed same because of poor lighting of the ground.

The high point of yesterday’s activity was the 100 metres event which was run off under floodlights, just before 19:00 h with Chavez Adegay of District 4 emerging the winner in the Boys’ Under-20 competition, to the delight of the crowd.

Following in the second and third positions were Okeme Stewart of District 15 and Treiston Joseph of District 11 respectively.

In a similar race competed by their female counterparts, Roxanne Rigby of District 15 arrived first at the finish line with Neisa Allen of District 11 and  Keyandre Zephyr under her heels, copping the second and third positions respectively.

Meanwhile, in the Boys’ Under-16 event, Cortez Fraser of District 15 finished first with Carl Tudor of District 3, and Christopher Hyderkhan following in that order.

Earlier, Marcia Dick took the cycling event in the 3 000 metres Girls’ Open cycle race beating rival Naomi Singh, to emerge the overall winner having competed with eleven competitors.

In the field event, Uzzi Israel of District 11 was adjudged the best thrower in the Male Teachers, 21 to 30 years category, shot put event. He was followed by Cranston Richmond of District 4 and Imlack Sears of District 7.

Meanwhile, in the points standings at the completion of 35 finals are as follows:

District One: North West – 31 points

District Two: Essequibo Coast/Pomeroon – 89 points

District Three: West Demerara – 94 points

District Four: East Coast Demerara 85 points

District Five: West Coast Berbice – 101

District Six: Corentyne – 112 points

District Seven: Bartica – 127 points

District Eight: Potaro/Siparuni – 44 points

District Nine: Rupunini – 112 points

District Ten: Upper Demerara/Kwakwani – 148 points

District Eleven: North Georgetown – 134 points

District Twelve: East Georgetown – 60 points

District Thirteen: South Georgetown – 61 points

District Fourteen: East Bank Demerara – 32 points  

District Fifteen: New Amsterdam – 108 points

District Sixteen: Essequibo Islands – 21 points
