SCOTIA Bank placed its confidence in the burgeoning Guyana Tape Ball League (GTBL) when they presented the up and coming sporting association with an undisclosed sum of cash in support of the GTBL’s Companies’ 10-10 cricket tournament.
Shane Austin, president of the Guyana Tape Ball League said that this tournament will be the official launch to the GTBL; he also revealed the reason for hosting a Companies’ 10-10 tournament. “We decided to form the Guyana Tape Ball League and we are now targeting the corporate society in an effort to get them involved in sports,” Austin said.
He further stated, “we aim to form a relationship with the corporate society for the future development of the Guyana Tape Ball League.”
Ravi De La Cruz an Account Officer at Scotia Bank said that this tournament is to break the ice and show the human side of the corporate society. He also said that Scotia Bank is devoted to giving back to the community suggesting that the Tape Ball League is by extension a means of developing and bringing youths together.
The tournament which will be played over the weekend, September 12-13, will feature 24 teams including:
Courts, Republic bank, AINLIM, Farfan and Mendes, Ming’s Products and Services, Banks DIH, Broadband, National Insurance Scheme, National Communications Network, Ansa Mc Al, Scotia Bank, Sterling Products, Bank of Guyana, Georgetown Hospital, Guyana & Trinidad Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Companies, Hand in Hand Fire and Life Insurance Society, Digicel Guyana Inc., Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Ltd., Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports among others.
The tournament is being sponsored by Banks DIH, Scotia Bank, Courts, Ramchand’s Bodyworks, National Insurance Scheme, AINLIM and The Trophy Stall among others.
Action Starts at 9:00h each day and on Sunday 13th there will be a four team female exhibition tournament.
