Police reported that at about 10:00h Wednesday, Cyrus, 38, of Park Lane, Amelia’s Ward, Linden, was shot and injured by a policeman during efforts to arrest him after he was identified as the assailant by the victim of an alleged rape.

Two policemen, one of whom was armed with a shotgun, went to Cyrus’ home to arrest him. He attacked the cops with a prospecting knife and one of them shot him in the leg.

Cyrus was taken to the McKenzie Hospital and then referred to the Georgetown Hospital.

A cell phone which has been identified by the rape victim as belonging to her was found in his possession.
