TRINIDAD EXPRESS –.A Guyanese man on a vacation in Trinidad was struck and killed by a runaway car Wednesday Rajiv Misir came to Trinidad a month ago and was staying with friends at Guapo Road, Fyzabad. The accident happened outside the home of Dawn Daniel who said Misir would usually come each day to their home to chat and Wednesday was no different. He was standing at the front of her home around 6.05 a.m. Daniel said, “He called for someone to open the remote gate when we heard a loud crash.” Daniel came out to see that a gold coloured Nissan Almera had crashed through the gate . Misir was lying on the driveway behind the car. He died on arrival at the San Fernando General Hospital, police officers said. Twenty-eight-year-old Kenrick De Silva, the driver of the car, was said to be in a critical condition at the San Fernando General Hospital. Misir, a 24-year-old jeweller, got married two months ago. His wife is pregnant. He came to Trinidad on July 9 and could have stayed up to six months, Daniel said. The body is to be returned to Misir’s family in Guyana. During his month long stay, Misir had gone fishing and visited the beach. “Last weekend he went to Las Cuevas,” Daniel said. Daniel called for drivers to be more careful on the roads. “The hardest thing was having to call the family and tell them their loved one died in an accident. Drivers need to be more conscious and drive for each other,” she said.
