POLICE have detained a man in connection with the brazen robbery at Guava Bush, Albion, Corentyne, Berbice, in which three gunmen carted off US$5,000, G$15,000 and gold jewellery.

Police reported that it happened about 19:30 h on Monday night and the victims were Guyanese 75-year-old Budnarine (only name given), his wife, Sookranie Budnarine, 67 and three relatives.

They were all sitting under a house when two of the bandits entered and held them at gunpoint while the other stood guard on the roadway.

As the trio fled the scene, they discharged several rounds indiscriminately but only a window of the house was damaged and the suspect in custody was held when the Joint Services responded to the report.
