Teen charged with assaulting, threatening his grandmother

SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Richard Harry, of Lot 118 Farm Squatting Area, yesterday appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry at Providence Court, also on East Bank Demerara, charged with threatening and assaulting his grandmother. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges, one of which said, on July 5, he unlawfully assaulted Kunti Mangal.

It is also alleged that, on July 4, he made use of threatening language to her and, on July 2, indecently assaulted a female.

Police Corporal Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said there was a misunderstanding over items that were missing from Mangal’s home and, when she asked her grandson to return them, the latter picked up a match and threatened to burn her home and chop her.

The Prosecutor said, on July 5, Harry was trying to enter the woman’s house and he pelted her with bottles when she objected.

Harvey also said, on July 2, Harry fondled the breast of a woman at his school.

The defendant’s grandmother said he had been a good child and she was unaware of what he has become.

The Magistrate ordered a probation report into his background and released Harry on $30,000 bail, only for the indecent assault charge.
He has to be back in Court July 22.
