Identify areas that are critical.

AS president of the Justices of the Peace Association it is my responsibility to give direction and leadership to the general membership as to the proper manner in which the association should function.

We have to take many initiatives, particularly the organising and broadening the borders, activities and mandates of the association. This is a voluntary, but most needed responsibility. It requires much sacrifice and commitment. This is to ensure that ‘justice’ activities are executed with true meaning and value of the office to realise true ‘peace’.

There are conflicts everywhere. (1) Among elders of society. Since there are uncertainties among so called ‘elders’, who with all the experiences gained due to the length of time (age) of living experience, what do we expect of (2) the young/youths, who are still trying to feel their way through – seeking their true identify and path to success. In the process we have seen teenage pregnancy, domestic violence, divorce and others. The intervention of JPs/COAs is expected to sign on to criminal proceedings with approval in one form or another in these cases.

In search of better life and more meaningful, many have succeed while others are succeeding to failure. Others have failed and others sadly are no longer with us. There are persons living among us who are poverty victims, suffering every day.

But if these concerns of society are not the responsibilities of JP’s/COA’s then who should intervene? If the city councillors, village and area councils do not have the capacity to address the many concerns everywhere, who will?

There are father/motherless kids among us; not having the privileged to experience to live under the loving care of parents. It is understandable if one or both have passed away, but it is sad and unwelcome when one or both are living in society enjoying life while children are left to suffer.

There are many kids, youths and adults alike who are experiencing ill-treatment in various forms, everywhere. The police and welfare officers are there, but they will intervene after the crime has been committed. Investigations then commence. We must congratulate the police and welfare officers for the many successes everywhere. I still feel, however, many unwanted experiences could have been avoided.

JPs/COAs should stretch their hands a little more and attend to the many needs of our people. We don’t have the means to provide material help, but certainly, on timely intervention we can direct the process and destiny, hoping that unwanted experiences be avoided.

JPs/COAs, be constant in season and out of season.

Intervene in time of need.

Identify areas that are critical.

Do not wait until it is too late.

I am aware that this is a very tall task, but it is honourable and very much needed. Earn the value of the identity and exercise the authority ‘without fear or favour. So help us O’ Al-mighty God”.
