Christian blasts 109, Butts 95 not out, in rain-hit CCA/Cellink Plus matches

HEAVY rain on Sunday put paid to the second day’s play in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Cellink Plus cricket matches that started on Saturday.

In matches on day one, the highlights were a century from Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) wicketkeeper batsman Derwin Christian, who hit a splendid 109 against hosts Everest while at the GCC ground Bourda former Guyana and West Indies off-spinner Clyde Butts scored an unbeaten 95 for his team GNIC in their total of 234 all out.

In other matches, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) gained first-innings points from Transport Sports Club (TSC) at DCC ground in Queenstown and Police also took first-innings honours against home team Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC).

Scores on day one were:
At DCC, TSC 173 all out: (Shane Cummings 55, Azeem Azeeze 30; Travis Gilbert 5-48, Paul Castello 2-29, Andre McFarlene 2-13). GDF, in reply, 190 all out: (Vijay Singh 41, Abhose Rambharose 36, Roderick Lovell 28, Aaron 22; Azeeze 5-31, Wazeer Mohamed 3-33). TSC, in their second innings are 21-2.

DCC vs. Everest, Everest 175: (Chris Pattadin 37, Sauid Drepaul 37, Chanderpaul Hemraj 22, Mohan Ramdeen 20; Omesh Danram 3-28, Christopher Barnwell 2-23, Dino Choo-wee-nam 2-13). DCC, in reply, 144-2: (Christian 109; Drepaul 2-48).

At Bourda, GNIC 234 all out: (Clyde Butts 95*, Ovid Richardson 31, Jermaine Grovesnor 25, Rayon Griffith 21, Devon Charles 21; Leon Johnson 4-65, Joshua Wade 2-42). GCC, in reply, are 90-4: (Wasim Haslim 40, Johnson 33*; Butts 2-10).

At Malteenoes, Police 151 all out: (Jason Heyliger 65, Reginald Rodriques 24, Rawle Browne 23; Damion VanTull 4-43, Orin Forde 2-18). Malteenoes, in reply, 140 all out: (Delvon McEwen 34, Forde 27, Shemroy Barrington 21; Vishaul Jaigobin 4-19, Trevor Benn 4-66). Police, in their second innings are 5-0.
The competition is set to resume on Saturday.
