IT is a commendable move by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security and the Ministry of Transport and Hydraulics to remove vagrants from off the streets of Georgetown.
The programme embarked on was long in the waiting and will be much appreciated. Citizens as well as tourist who traverse the road ways daily will now be at peace and enjoy the beauty of the city without being bothered or molested by these street dwellers for money.
Also the announcement of the construction of a new shelter is even more appreciated especially for those who genuinely have no where to live.
With the allocation of millions of dollars to construct such facility it is hoped that the street dwellers will now utilise the facility and keep off the streets.
I suggest that programmes be put in place at the new shelter to encourage that these persons remain there. There should also be rehabilitation programmes to assist these persons to in returning to society.
The programme should also expand to the other regions, especially at Parika and New Amsterdam.
