CHESTER-LE-STREET, England (CMC) – West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan has dedicated his 15th Test match century to a friend and supporter who died recently.
He stroked an even century in the West Indies first innings of the second Test at the Riverside Ground in a losing effort as West Indies went down by an innings and 84 runs.
Sarwan paid tribute to Zalina Mungar from Trinidad, who was a faithful supporter and had often watched the Windies play at Queen’s Park Oval.
“It was a very important hundred for me … recently a very close family friend passed away,” Sarwan said.
“She was a very nice lady and I would like to dedicate this century to her. I want to wish her family all the best and make sure they stay strong.”
The century was Sarwan’s fourth in Test cricket for the year following the three he made in the Digicel Series against England in the Caribbean.
