Pomeroon River multi-purpose complex to include Police outpost

A MULTI-PURPOSE complex, in which a police outpost will be housed, will be built in lower Pomeroon River.

Member of the Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Regional Democratic Council (RDC) Mr. Feruese Basir made the disclosure last Tuesday at the statutory meeting.

He said he was among some councillors, ranks of the Joint Services and Government officials who visited the area recently to identify a suitable site for the construction, following several calls by Pomeroon residents, which he and the Alliance for Change (AFC) endorsed.

Basir said the Pomeroon River is used for various illicit activities, including smuggling contraband from Venezuela and illegitimate entry by aliens.

The visiting team comprised senior officers of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Engineering Corps; Police ‘G’ Divisional Commander Goulding; GDF Lieutenant Commander Orin Peters and Deputy Regional Executive Officer (Administration) Devanand Ramdatt.

They are to make a follow-up visit shortly, to speed up the project because of the need for policing on a 24-hour basis along Pomeroon River mouth. (Rajendra Prabhulall)
