Sukdeo’s relatives worried about his recovery after Demerara River collision

Relatives of 58-year-old Tulsiram Sukdeo are still concerned about his recovery following the results of a Computer Assisted Tomography (CAT) that showed bruising to his brain and the fact that he cannot recall anything of his accident.

The man was injured in an accident in the Demerara River on April 24 last, when a foreign workboat and the passenger vessel xShadowx collided.

The shallow water survey vessel, xSV Geox, was headed out to sea when it ran into the xShadowx carrying 30 passengers.

Upon impact, the bowman, Mr. Visham Dat, was thrown into the river, and Sukdeo sustained head injuries.

The foreign team had arrived here on April 19 to conduct a survey on a marine cable route offshore Guyana.

They are here to map the ocean floor along the proposed location offshore Guyana of the cable route to assist with engineer and environmental concerns.

The foreign vessel is associated with Telseurxs Suriname-Guyana Cable System (TSGS), is owned by SSR Survey Ltd, and registered under Triple B Enterprise for flag purposes.

According to Sukdeoxs daughter, Mrs. Naseema Singh, he is recovering in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

xHe is stable but he cannot remember anything about the accident,x she lamented.

The relatives of the injured man pointed out that they were coping with the issue and were hoping and praying for their loved onexs full recovery.

Singh said that as for a settlement, Harbour MasterWalton Skeete is acting as a liaison between the family and the foreigners.

The Guyana Chronicle understands that Skeete recently completed his report on the incident and submitted it to the Director General of Maritime Administration Department (MARAD), Ms. Claudette Rogers, last Wednesday.

In an invited comment, Rogers said the report was still being reviewed and recommendations by MARAD would be made upon completion of the review.
