Suspect in Vreed-en-Hoop murder still at large

AN ex-soldier, Devon Limerick, wanted for the murder of Beverly Mangru called Pam remains at large.
Mangru was murdered Wednesday last at Lot 79 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara.

Murdered: Beverly Mangru.
A post mortem on Friday revealed that Mangru was stabbed thrice in the throat, which left a gaping hole and she bled to death.

Mangru was also stabbed about ten times to the body and was reportedly knifed to death by her common-law husband of six months during an argument at their, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara residence.

Mangru’s daughter, Roxanne Mangru, 21, who lived with her stepfather, mother and 17-year-old brother were not at home Wednesday night.

Roxanne told the Guyana Chronicle that her stepfather was well-behaved and her mother’s brutal death at his hands came as a total shock.

Relatives told the Guyana Chronicle Mangru shared an abusive relationship with her reputed husbands with whom she got two children and later had another relationship with another abusive man, which resulted in two other children.

They said that Mangru was often beaten by both men and on one occasion one of them hit her with a plate and she lost a tooth while on another occasion she was tied to the bed and badly beaten.

“She fell for the wrong men and suffered severely for it even though we used to try to advise her, she still encouraged a relationship six months ago with the killer,” they explained.

Tear-filled relatives added that Mangru met the man at Splashmins where he worked as a lifeguard at the time and the relationship blossomed quickly and they rented a house and he moved in with her.

Mangru was self-employed and operated a CD Shop at Stelling Road,

Vreed-en-Hoop.

They were informed of the incident by neighbours who heard Mangru’s screams.

Police said Mangru was killed about 19:00 hours Wednesday during a quarrel with her reputed husband where she was stabbed in the neck.

She was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH).

Police have recovered a blood-stained knife from the scene as the investigations continue.
