IN its continued dedication to bringing relief and solace to those whose lives have been disrupted or destroyed by disasters, the Guyana Relief Council (GRC) yesterday presented five families with much needed supplies. The recipients at yesterday’s handing over were: Vilene McLeod’s six-member family of Grant Unity, Lower Pomeroon River; Omadai Galdino, family of five from Good Hope, East Coast Demerara; family of six of Pakistan, La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara, represented by Subhass Ramgobin; Moonilall Ganpat’s family of six from Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice; and the Moolsammy family of Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown. The Moolsammys suffered substantial losses when their residence went up in flames two weeks ago. For the year, the Council has provided relief to 55 persons whose lives were affected by fire; another nine cases were also provided with welfare assistance and two cases, comprising five persons, afflicted by other disasters, were also assisted. Meanwhile, the GRC, in a statement, once again expressed its profound gratitude to its many friends and supporters, through whose benevolence they have been able to meet the needs of those suffering unfortunate circumstances. The Council also advised that its delivery of service is not one which is based on discrimination regardless of any differences which may distinguish persons.
The organisation, which is in its 15th year of humanitarian works, in keeping with its motto “Caring and Sharing”, delivered the items to representatives of each family who suffered losses as a result of fire at its Ruimveldt, Georgetown head office.
