THE Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology, Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport, is currently inviting artist and other interested members of the public to submit entries, which can be converted into the institution’s official logo, The deadline is March 22, 2013
Founded in 1974 and officially opened to the public in 1982, the Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology and Art History (as it was originally called) was the first Museum of Anthropology in the English speaking Caribbean. It is currently under the umbrella of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, who is the governing body.
The main responsibility of the museum is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the pre-historic, and to some extent, historic records and cultures of Guyana’s past populations. The mandate of the Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology is to document, preserve and display Guyana’s pre-historic and present tangible and intangible heritage. The museum’s mission is to raise awareness of past cultures, while providing an educational experience to visitors through anthropological research, and the collection, documentation and conservation of artifacts and other cultural heritage.
The logo should reflect the museum’s mission and focus. The logo must be the applicant’s original idea and design with explanation of all pictures and or symbols used. The winning entry becomes the property of the museum and will be used on all documents, materials and media produced by the institution. Winner will receive G$80,000 as a prize.
