Uitvlugt Secondary defeated Leonora Secondary to win the West Coast Demerara Zone of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) National Secondary Schools Cricket League (NSSCL) sponsored by Digicel and Banks DIH.Playing at the Zeeburg ground, Leonora Secondary batted first after being inserted by Uitvlugt and were bundled out for just 94 in 25 overs. Sachin Basdeo was the main contributor with 31 as Reaz Khan who took wickets consistently for his team to finish with 4-16 off six overs while Reidell Reddy supported well with 3-12.
Uitvlugt successfully chased their target with four wickets in hand and nine overs to spare. Dodi Oselmo led the fight with 23 while Chandrapaul Mohabir chipped in with 21. Moen Khan was the pick of the bowlers for Leonora as he took 3-22.
Meanwhile, Charlestown Secondary won their semi-final matchup against Tucville on Thursday at GNIC to move in the South Georgetown zone final.
Tucville Secondary won the toss and decided to bat first. However, they could only get to 98-8 when their 20 overs expired. Only Rondave Noel and Godfrey Phillip offered any resistance with 25 and 21 against Qumar Torrington who finished with 4-16.
Charlestown Secondary then made light work of their target, finishing the game with a six in the 16th over as they stormed into the final. Torrington showed his all-round ability when he returned to stroke an unbeaten 26.
Charlestown Secondary will now play Lodge Secondary in the South Georgetown Zone final on a date to be announced.
