THREE Lindeners were on Monday remanded to prison by City Magistrate Judy Latchman after being jointly charge for rape.

Seon Alexander of Blueberry Hill, Linden; Anthony VanDembury of Wismar Housing scheme, Linden and a 16-year-old male juvenile were not required to plea to the indictable charge.

Reporters and members of the public were blocked from entering the courtroom as the matter was held in camera. The men were refused bail and the matter was adjourned and transferred to Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for June 7.

According to reports the incident reportedly occurred on the night of May 6 at Kwakwani, Linden. The young British volunteer, who was in Guyana to teach children in Leguan, Essequibo area and had ventured to the Kwakwani to visit other volunteers.

This newspaper understands that the young woman went to a bar with some friends where she was accosted by the three males who took her into a house and raped her.

The young woman had told investigators that she was intoxicated at the time of the incident and could not remember what happened when the men took advantage of her. However the woman told police officers that it was the three suspects who had raped her. She said she saw her attackers’ faces.
