CRIME Chief, Leslie James told this publication that in 2014 the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) surpassed the 10% crime reduction target as projected by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) as a result of intelligence-led work by sleuths.Accordingly, they will adopt the same posture this year to intensify the work of the CID and will examine the strategies that worked well last year and apply those at the earliest.

The assistant commissioner related that despite challenges, they have done reasonably well and surpassed their target by 5% in 2014. Their success was attributed to diligent intelligence-led activities of CID ranks.

He said this year it will be no different, but noted that adequate staffing and resources are being addressed for CID and projects a good year for that department, where strategies will be adopted to strengthen their capacity as a unit.

James added that in 2015 they will operate with more diligence and direction to foster a closer relationship between communities and the police, since the community projects in several areas across the country have been working well.

He noted that they are reaching out to the public and they have received favourable responses thus far; their objective is to maintain such good relations.

James pointed out that they successfully dismantled several criminal gangs in 2014, cracked some big cases and for this year they will continue their work along that line.

He however commended the ranks for their sterling performances last year and encouraged them to perform with the same zest this year.
