— Minister Harmon talks up the ‘good life’

THE annual Bartica Regatta beach activities kicked off on Sunday morning with the golden beach packed with patrons and tourists who came out to enjoy a day filled with excitement.

Minister of State Joseph Harmon, who represented President David Granger, commended the Bartica Town Council and the 2019 Regatta Organising Committee for their success in organising the month-long activities.

He said the regatta is a great achievement for the town, since it started simply with boat races and developed into a grand cultural extravaganza.

“The Bartica Regatta has grown from strength to strength, and has taken its place among the top tourist and entertainment attractions in Guyana’s social calendar,” Harmon said.

He also said the government is working towards ensuring citizens are afforded a good life, making mention of the many developmental projects that were executed in the town.

In addition, the minister said the Office of Climate Change has received approval for US$3M for Bartica, to be distributed as loans and grants to pursue ‘green’ projects.

“Your government is committed to continuing this process of development; of building our infrastructure not only in Bartica, but all across Region Seven and all across our country,” Minister Harmon said.

On that note, the minister officially declared Bartica Regatta 2019 open.

From the sentiments of those in attendance, it can be concluded that the Bartica Regatta is one of the most anticipated Easter activities, not only for the people of Bartica, but for people all across Guyana and further afield.

The morning kicked off with a minor accident in the horse power engine race, but it did not take away from the day’s festivities.

The excitement continues today at the Golden Beach.
