A 37- year-old farmhand died by drowning while reportedly attempting to swim across the Abary River around noon on Wednesday.
The body of Seeram Khemraj called ‘Blackie’ of Bath Settlement Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB) was recovered from the river around mid-morning on Thursday.
His father Gajraj aka ‘Gago’ told the Guyana Chronicle that his son, who resided with his parents, left home on Monday last to work in the Abary backlands.
He received news of his disappearance and the circumstances around noon on Wednesday.
The deceased was a father of two girls of ages 13 and 15.
The body of the man was taken to the Anthony Funeral Parlour at Fort Wellington, WCB pending a post-mortem examination.
The police are investigating the circumstance surrounding the farmhand’s death.
