DIEGO Maradona has a new job and, with it, a new life.

The Argentine football legend has begun work as manager of Mexican second-division club Dorados, whose Sinaloa state base is home to one of Mexico’s most powerful drug cartels.

The World Cup winner has made no secret of his struggles with cocaine addiction and alcoholism and now hopes his continued recovery allows him to make up for lost time.

Maradona, who left UAE second-division club Al Fujairah in May after failing to secure promotion, insists his dark days are over with his new role.

“I want to give Dorados what I lost when I was sick,” he told reporters in Culiacan at his official presentation.

“I was sick for 14 years. Now I want to see the sun, I want to go to bed at night. I never even used to go to bed. I didn’t even know what a pillow was. That’s why I accepted the offer from Dorados.”

Maradona was forced to reassure fans over his health during the World Cup in Russia after drinking “all the wine” as Argentina beat Nigeria.
