BANKS DIH through its ‘Rainforest Waters’ brand will sponsor an inaugural 11-race cycling programme on Saturday at the inner circuit of the National Park.

The meet will be organised by National cycling coach and Racing secretary of the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF), Hassan Mohamed.

It will pit Guyana’s top cyclists against one another in the Senior, Junior, Veteran (U-45/O-50), Juvenile and Mountain Bike events with sprint prizes and trophies up for grabs.

As we move later into September, cycling action will heat up with a place at the Senior Caribbean Cycling Championships in the Dominican Republic at stake.

Andrew Hicks, Christopher ‘Chicken Legs’ Griffith, Curtis ‘Chappy’ Dey, Deeraj Garbarran, Jamual John, Romello Crawford, Silvio Innis, Hamzah Eastman, Paul DeNobrega, Briton John and Alonzo Ambrose have all qualified for the Championships but the GCF has since stated that only five cyclists will be selected.

According to a GCF official, the cyclists will have to earn their spots on that team and thus the next couple of weeks will be important.
