Four teams win in opening of BFA/GFF/Pele Alumni/Frank Watson U-15 League

THE 2018 football season in the Ancient County of Berbice opened with a grand march past, which featured the ten competing teams in the BFA/GFF/Pele Alumni Frank Watson U-15 League at the Esplanade Park in New Amsterdam last Sunday.

Following a warm welcome to the ten clubs and their management teams, Berbice Football Association secretary Joseph Simon expressed delight at the turnout
The teams were addressed by Georgetown Football Federation (GFF) Technical Director Ian Greenwood, who encouraged the youths to work hard and maintain focus in order to be rewarded with the appropriate skills, to firstly be inducted into the Academy Training Centres (ATC) which will put them a step closer to the National team.

The first match saw East Bank Gunners against Orealla Falcons – a match which lasted 70 minutes. The Gunners had no answers for the lads from Orealla. They went down 9-nil at the hands of a relentless Orealla Falcons, whose goals came from, Shano Edwards in the 8th, 12th & 34th minutes, backed by a brace from Daniel Alexander in the 22nd and 30th minutes.

This was followed by a hat-trick of goals from Brett Sarius in the 39th, 44th and 45th. Carlton Hamilton ended the assault with the ninth goal in the 57th minute.
The second match ended in a 3-0 victory for Corriverton Links over Arsenal FC. .The three goals came from the boots of Matthias Lewis in the 35th, 46th & 59th minutes.
In match three, Monedderlust FC gained a 2-1 win over NA United. Bryon Bailey scored for Monedderlust in the 22nd minute and Michael Jordon in the 27th. Bryon Bailey accounted for NA United’s lone goal, courtesy of an own goal.

However, due to Monedderlust FC fielding an overaged player, Daniel LaRose, the match will be forfeited and will be awarded to NA United with full 3 points.
In match four, Cougars FC humbled Hopetown United Rangers 4-0. Tyrese Tim made his mark in the third and 56th minutes while Kevon Hamilton found his range in the 27th and 49th to hand his team an easy victory.

In the final match of the day, Hearts of Oak came up against Young Strikers. It was a keenly contested match with Hearts of Oak taking the lead. They scored midway in the first half. Young Strikers’ Nicholas Brown showed some skills above the others as he continuously challenged the Hearts of Oak defence.
Brown eventually got an opening and placed one in the back of the net in the 67th minute. This brought the supporters to their feet and the match ended 1-1.
