Beer bottle stabbing follows argument

A 35-YEAR-OLD boat labourer who reportedly stabbed a man with a beer bottle during an argument was on Wednesday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for attempted murder.

Jermaine McDonald of Melanie, East Coast Demerara was not required to plea to the charge which alleged that on October 8 at Kumaka Water Front, North West District he wounded Mario Gomes with intent to commit murder.

According to police prosecutor Arwin Moore on the day in question the two men were consuming alcohol at the waterfront when an argument ensued.

During the argument McDonald armed himself with a beer bottle and hit Gomes to his head causing the man to bleed and become unconscious.

Prosecutor Moore objected to the defendant being released on bail on the ground that the victim’s condition was listed as critical and he was still hospitalised.

The Magistrate remanded McDonald and transferred the matter to the Mabaruma Magistrate Court for November 21.
