A post-mortem on Chinese businessman, Liyan Jiang, 44, whose bound and gagged body was found in the lower flat of his Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo home, revealed that he died from strangulation and cerebral haemorrhage.

The post-mortem was performed by Government Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh, on Wednesday. So far, no arrest has been made with regard to the homicide but it is still an active investigation, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said.
Jiang was found dead in his bathroom by his friend around 22:00hrs last Thursday.

It is believed that the assailant(s) entered his home through the bathroom window.

Prior to him being murdered, sources say that he was playing online games with friends around 03:00 hrs on August 9, when he told them to “hold on” but never returned.

So far nothing has been confirmed as missing from his home but the idea of robbery is not being ruled out by investigators.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has confirmed that investigations are ongoing and the matter is being treated as a murder/robbery.

His neighbours said they were sleeping at the time of the incident and were made aware of what took place when they woke up.

The father of two, reportedly moved to the area one month ago and was in the process of setting up his restaurant at the bottom flat of the house and a supermarket in the area. His wife, Liang Yuelan and children were left in Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, awaiting the completion of the businesses.
