Murder accused Britton to know fate Thursday

JUSTICE James Bovell-Drakes, presiding in the murder trial wherein defendant Lloyd Britton is alleged to have shot and killed Elvis Fernandes, who was in a minibus on July 26, 2013, will on Thursday sum up the evidence and hand over the case to the jury for their consideration.Lawyers for the State and the defence respectively addressed the jury on Monday, with the defence asking for a complete acquittal and the prosecution for a verdict of guilty, in keeping with the evidence in the case.

In his request for a not-guilty verdict, Defence Attorney Nigel Hughes contended on the basis of what he called scientific facts and the trajectory path of the bullet; while Tameeka Clarke, a prosecutor in the case, made the final address to the jury and noted that the defence had referred to the wrong window through which the bullet had been fired.

And, according to Ms. Clarke, the man had said, “Don’t carry me to the PHG, carry me to a private hospital; the police are always at public.”

The accused, according to witnesses, was subsequently arrested and charged with murder.

Orinthia Schmitz is leading the case for the prosecution, while Nigel Hughes is defending. The case continues on Thursday at 9:00hrs, when the judge will begin his address to the jury.
